Mentoring
I now offer one on one mentoring to Physiotherapists and final year Physiotherapy students.
Do you feel you need mentoring in manual therapy? I and my peers have been increasingly perplexed at the number of clients (at least weekly!) who have been to a previous Physio with a straightforward problem, such as a stiff neck, and reported only receiving exercises as their treatment. It seems manual therapy (what fixes people!) is not taught so much now. Maybe a mentor could help.
I have been a suburban hands-on physiotherapist for over 30 years. I endeavour to give simple clear explanation to my clients of what is going on (because it helps!) and resolve their issues swiftly via manual therapy. I am very disappointed not to resolve a client within two to three sessions of manual therapy (presuming no structural injuries). These approaches and techniques can be easily mentored.
Mechanical, joint based pain is responsible for most of the clients that will present to you in private practice. Manual therapy to resolve the mechanical deficit is the fastest and easiest way to resolve these clients. Of course, exercises have value but joints (people!) need to have normal range to not hurt. You can be mentored to fix that movement restriction if you are not sure how.
If you are frustrated at the lack of manual therapy training in your undergraduate physiotherapy course, consider a mentoring session with me. These mentoring sessions can be tailored to whatever you prefer: Hands-on practice, instruction, assessment, how to explain conditions, etc.
Cost: $88 including GST for a 30 minute mentoring session.
